Growing Up with HIV
Young William Mmemba had the misfortune of being born with HIV, though the virus remained dormant until he entered primary school. His mother is now gone, and William is being cared for by his loving father, who is also HIV-positive. Both benefit from antiretroviral treatment that is being made available through US-sponsored clinics. William is one of the estimated 2.3 million youngsters in sub-Saharan Africa who are living with HIV.
